ProductsOur Customer’s products are geared to upscale, image conscious consumers. They are the kind of people who read labels and are concerned about the ingredients in the prepared food that they buy. Using California wine and announcing that fact in your marketing efforts attracts the kind of consumer you are looking for. California quality control requirements on winemaking are the toughest in the nation. Winemakers are not allowed to add sugar to their wine, for example, except for pure condensed grape must. They are not allowed to add water, except for the minimum amount required to facilitate normal fermentation. Other states, however, are allowed to “ameliorate” their wines by adding up to 35% additional sugar and water. Quoting directly from the California statute: “Wine derived from raisins, dried grapes, dried berries, and other dried fruit, and imitation or substandard wine, shall not be produced, imported or sold in this state. . .” |
